Website: This position will be on site at our facility located in: Cisco TX, Gainesville TX or Midland TX. We do not offer visa sponsorship for this position. Position Summary: Assists the Operator with any equipment maintenance and leading the crew. An ability to work at heights is also an essential aspect of this position as Derrick-hands must often climb the derrick and guide the pipe into the derrick structure. The Derrick-hand uses a safety harness and special climbing apparatus to reach the higher levels of the derrick while performing his duties.
Key Roles / Responsibilities: - Performs general maintenance of rig.
- Loads and off-loads pipe and assists in rig movement.
- Checks snub lines, pull-lines, shackles and cable clamps to verify condition.
- Checks dies in slips and tongs and all safety and riding belts to verify condition.
- Responds to emergency situations including hydrogen sulfide detection and major mechanical or structural failures.
- Trips pipe - uses slips, tongs and elevators.
- Latches and unlatches tubing and rods.
- Wrenches rods.
- Prepares and sets up rig for work-over.
- Diagnoses well problems.
- Cuts and threads pipe.
- Performs service maintenance on rigs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications: - Competent with rig and all equipment
- Knowledge of plugging operations (required).
- Knowledge of cementing (required).
- Knowledge of types of pipe.
- Knowledge of how pumping units operate.
- Knowledge of thread types, tubing sizes and rod sizes.
- Knowledge of working derricks and drill floor.
- Previous operation and safety experience as Derrick hand or Floor hand.
- Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as well as background check.
- Class A (preferred).
- Level 1 Well Control Certification (preferred)
- Heavy travel required.
Working Conditions: - Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
